Leeds United could target Burnley star – Three Championship players the club should sign this summer

Leeds United need to consider shopping in the Championship ahead of this summer. An interesting transfer policy most newly promoted clubs adopt is to sign players from the division when heading to the Premier League.

Signing championship players is sometimes a sound strategy for some clubs. It is cheaper than trying to sign players from Premier League clubs or other top European leagues. You also get the benefit of having experienced players with enough quality to play in the Championship when you get relegated.

One top club that have benefitted from this over the past few years is Brentford. They spent wisely on players from the Championship, and developed most of them to sell for a profit.

Now that Leeds have been promoted to the Premier League next season and have money to spend, let us look at a few players the club could target from the Championship this summer.

QUIZ: Can you name these 10 Leeds United players from the 2000s?

The Burnley keeper has already been linked with a move to Elland Road by Alan Nixon. With Leeds still in the market for a first choice keeper, it could be a no brainer to pursue the Clarets’ first choice keeper. The 25 year old has arguably been the best keeper in the Championship this season. FBref statistics reveal that Trafford has prevented around 10 goals this season.

Borja Sainz

The Spaniard is kind of tailor made for this Leeds United team. Imagine a much better version of Brenden Aaronson who can actually affect games by scoring and creating. Sainz can be used in a number of attacking roles, but often thrives playing just off the striker. His numbers speak for himself – 17 goals and four assists in the league this season. Leeds should have an eye on the 24-year old.

Wilson Isidor

Even though Joel Piroe has showed he lethal he can be in front of goal, Leeds will need a more all round presence up top in the Premier League. This is where Sunderland’s Wilson Isidor comes in. The Frenchman has run defences ragged this season, despite it being his first year in England. The 24-year old has scored just 14 league goals this season, five less than Piroe, but his all round game surpasses the Leeds striker by far.
