Leeds United defender hints at decision on his future – Daniel Farke’s trust will be repaid

Leeds United are set for a big summer, as they set to build a squad for next season. A return to the Premier League will not be easy for the newly promoted club.

The last two seasons, all three promoted sides went back down. Almost every promoted team this season spent close to a £100million, which is close to the amount Daniel Farke will reportedly have this summer. The Whites will have a huge budget to spend on new players, but they will also have to move on a few.

PSR issues affected Leeds during the January window, and with the club making a loss from last year, more focus will be on balancing the books.

Leeds’ retained list has been made public as of today. As it stands, Joe Rothwell and Manor Solomon will return to their parent clubs. Josuha Guilavogui is set to be the only senior player confirmed to be on the way out. The club will hold talks with Junior Firpo and Sam Byram this summer.

Another player who is set to stay this summer is Isaac Schmidt. The defender was out of favour for most of the season, but he has said he is keen on extending his stay at Elland Road:

“I thought about it. But I’d only just arrived, and I needed to adapt. And I could see that I was making progress. Even without playing, I could feel that I was making steady progress,” he said to Blick.

“We’ll see. I’m open to anything. But Leeds, in the Premier League… it’s a unique experience. Yes, of course. It’s a dream. I didn’t have a favourite club in the Premier League… now it’s Leeds!”.

Daniel Farke’s faith pays off

Isaac Schmidt admitted his time out of the first team made him consider his future. But nearing the end of the season, he earned Daniel Farke’s trust. During the run in, the 25-year old featured in five of the last seven games.

His versatility was key, as he was even used as a winger to close out some games. Schmidt could have a bigger role next season.
