Leeds United defender set for exit as new signing gets closer – deal could be completed soon

Leeds United may be set for a huge shakeup in defence this summer. Many factors will be in play as the club is set to add some big names to bolster the backline.

After the confirmation of Lukas Nmecha’s arrival, the club have sped up the process to add more new faces. Over the weekend, an agreement was reached for Udinese’s Jaka Bijol. The Slovenian international has been a standout in Italy and will be a solid addition to the squad.

At the same time, Leeds are expecting two departures in the coming weeks. Junior Firpo is expected to leave on a free transfer, while Max Wober revealed that he has been told to find a new club.

This summer is set to be a crucial one as the Whites dictate the futures of some of the current crop of players. Former Leeds U21 trio of Darko Gyabi, Sam Greenwood and Joe Gelhardt have been made available for sale this summer.

Another young player could be out of the door soon. Leeds U21 defender Kris Moore has been tipped to leave this month. The Daily Record have now revealed that Moore is heading to join Morton in Scotland. Moore will be a free agent when his contract expires at the end of the month.

The defender captained the U21 side, and made over a 100 appearances across the youth ranks.

Assessing the club’s youth system

Leeds United have relied on their youth ranks for the past few seasons. The emergence of the likes of Pascal Struijk, Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray helped the club in a big way.

And the club has no plans of slowing down. Leeds continue to find the best talents to develop in the U21s, with their path being clear – eventually joining the first team, or becoming a starter elsewhere.
