Leeds United ‘edge closer’ to club-record Jorgen Strand Larsen deal

Leeds United continue to be busy in the January transfer market with just a week remaining before the deadline as they look to strengthen their squad further.

Working within tight financial limits, the Whites have already added to their attacking options by securing Facundo Buonanotte on loan from Brighton after he rejected the same move last summer.

Leeds are also evaluating striker targets and are understood to be pushing ahead with a deal for Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen, which could still become a club-record signing this winter.

Strand Larsen and his agent are keen on a move to Elland Road. However, there is no agreement between the two clubs as Wolves push to get the maximum out of his potential sale.

The Whites have not tried to play down their interest in the Wolves striker, and are continuing to work on a deal to try and take him to Elland Road.

Wolves rejected an offer from Leeds earlier in the window, but that has not deterred the Yorkshire giants from pursuing the Norwegian forward.

The Molineux outfit want £40m from his sale, and according to Football Insider, Leeds’ pursuit of the forward is ‘one to watch’ going into the final days of the window.

With the striker open to a move to Leeds, the club have received encouragement to sign him, and the club are now edging closer to working out a deal.

Leeds hope to raise funds to cobble together a second bid that matches Wolves’ asking price before the end of the transfer window.

Sources believe the Strand Larsen transfer saga could run into the final hours of the transfer window on 2nd February.

Leeds need to get a deal over the line for Strand Larsen

This weekend’s results have reinforced that Leeds cannot afford to take their foot off the gas, despite suffering just one defeat in their last 10 games, with any hint of complacency likely to be punished.

West Ham’s back-to-back wins have brought them to within touching distance of escaping the relegation zone, while Nottingham Forest’s victory over Brentford has eased some of the pressure on them.

Both clubs have also been aggressive in the transfer market as they look to strengthen their survival prospects, while Leeds have so far only brought in Facundo Buonanotte.

Appearances 35
Goals 14

With Forest pushing to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta, the spotlight is now on Leeds to ensure they can get a deal for Strand Larsen over the line in the final week of the window.

The Whites cannot afford to stand still or rely on those below them to continue faltering if they are to secure their Premier League status.

Same old problems, leave it late miss out, Larsen is not the only player needed, but the way things are going, will be another poor transfer window, and that includes lack of outgoing players, who ever is responsible get it sorted before its too late! 🙈

I totally agree with Malcolm, it’s always smoke and mirrors with the 49s. Leeds NEED more than one player. The Larsen deal needs to get done, if Sunderland wanted him he would have already signed. Last minute deals are highly unlikely, and Leeds can afford another Loan player too. If fringe players are to be sold surely why not do so in the summer and get what we need now.

The 49ers tactics are well exposed; bid below asking price, and chase players they know they cannot get, and leave it so late that that time runs out; they can then appear to have been trying. Hamer was one of the most obvious, as was Wilson. The common-sense approach would be to sign him early, before Mateta left Palace. We have let teams below us strengthen and gain points while the 49ers dilly-dally. If Palace now outbid us we will have let a team in freefall, just above us become stronger. It makes no logical sense. It’s almost like the 49ers are waiting for Palace to get them out of jail. It’s like Baturina; they’ve know for a while that he is inaccessible. We bid below asking price for a ton of players in the summer, penny-pinching, while a team that finished 24 points below us spent double our outlay.… Read more »
