Leeds United eye move for £9M midfield dynamo – European club keen on summer sale

Leeds United have finally made a signing in the summer transfer window. And it looks like the Whites are going to follow it up with a host of arrivals.

Leeds are still an attractive club in English football. The club’s status and legacy still attracts some of Europe’s top players. The Whites’ latest arrival Lukas Nmecha said he was convinced to join the club after hearing about the project in West Yorkshire:

“It’s just a great challenge,” said Nmecha.

“I am really excited to get to know the team. I have spoken with the manager many times and I am excited to play that style of football that they played in the Championship, even in the Prem.”

Udinese’s Jaka Bijol, and Strasbourg’s Habib Diarra are some of the names that could follow Nmecha to Elland Road.

The deal for the Slovenian defender is almost across the line, with just some finishing touches remaining. However, Strasbourg are yet to agree to Leeds’ offer for Diarra. The fee stands around £25million.

According to GMS, a new midfield target could be on Leeds’ radar. Reims midfielder Valentin Atangana is drawing some interest from the Whites. Leeds are said to be keen on a deal. The France U21 international is said to be available for just £9million after his team was relegated from Ligue 1 last season.

Leeds are keeping tabs on the 19-year old, but could face strong competition from Premier League sides this summer.

What does Atangana bring to the midfield?

The Frenchman has been described as the ‘next Ngolo Kante’; a dynamic ball winner in midfield. This profile is quite similar to what Leeds have at the moment, but the 19-year old has a wide skillset.

Atangana is very good at carrying the ball and moving it forward. Most midfielders are just good at winning the ball back, but the Reims man can do a lot with the ball when he has it. For his age, and the fee rumoured, he could be a signing for the future.
