Leeds United have signed three players this summer, and all the deals have gone smoothly. But in recent weeks, the club have had some obstacles.
Daniel Farke has been able to bolster the squad with the signing of one striker and two defenders. Last season saw Joel Piroe play a huge load of minutes, and now Lukas Nmecha can come in and compete for a spot. With Max Wober out of the door, Sebastiaan Bornauw was brought in as depth, while Jaka Bijol is expected to compete for a starting place.
A midfielder was also on the club’s radar, but deals have been shut down by other clubs. Leeds were in talks with Strasbourg over a move for Habib Diarra, but Sunderland swooped in and sealed the deal quickly. Graeme Bailey reported that the Whites were not keen on paying the £30million fee.

The search continues as the club plots move to add some players in the middle of the park. Sunderland took Habib Diarra and Noah Sadiki off the table, so Leeds have to be creative.
According to TEAMtalk, the Whites could move for Southampton star Shea Charles. Leeds have had some interest in the 21-year old earlier this year. The report adds that the club had been monitoring Charles when he was on loan at Sheffield Wednesday last season.
Sean Longstaff a target, but alternative lined up
TEAMtalk also add that Leeds could revive a move for Sean Longstaff. Eddie Howe said earlier this year that the midfielder is free to leave the club, but for now it looks like he is staying put. Everton have shown interest in Longstaff, but are yet to make a move.
In the event a move for the 27-year old is not on the table, Leeds have discussed the possibility of signing his teammate Joe Willock.
It has been reported that a move for Longstaff and/or Shea does not affect Anton Stach’s potential transfer deal.
Which midfielder should Leeds sign?
Between Longstaff and Willock, there should be an option Leeds should really push for. The 27-year old is experienced and provides stability in midfield, but Willock fits Daniel Farke’s side more.

The midfielder is a more dynamic option, who can play on the flanks or behind the striker. He advances the ball, and can dribble into dangerous areas. Willock also has a nose for goal when he makes runs into the box. He would be a perfect fit for the number 10 role.
