Leeds United face damning accusation of ‘blowing it’ – Daniel Farke is fighting for his job at Elland Road

Leeds United dropped out of the automatic promotion spots over the weekend after only managing a 1-1 draw at Luton Town. A run of one win in six has pushed Leeds down to third in the table, and they are now scrambling for form going into the remaining six games of the regular season. The Whites have been accused of blowing their chances of securing automatic promotion.

Farke and his Leeds United players are under some serious pressure going into a tough game against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Tuesday night.

Boro could be missing as many as nine players due to injuries, but Michael Carrick’s men are one of the in-form teams of the Championship after winning four of their last six in the league.

Leeds will need to get their season back on track on Teesside, and already, accusations are flying in that the Whites have made a mess of an automatic promotion race that should have been sorted out by now.

Leeds United are ‘blowing it’ – Former Premier League star

The Leeds players have looked listless in recent games, and it is a sign of a team who are feeling the pressure of getting promoted after failing last season.

Former Premier League defender Martin Keown insisted that Oxford United will be a tough trip for Leeds later this month, given their win over Sheffield United on Saturday.

He pointed out Leeds are set to face a number of teams who have turned their form around in recent weeks, and at this stage, it seems Leeds are blowing their chances of automatic promotion.

“Oxford United beating Sheffield United, that was impactful at both ends of the table”, Keown said on talkSPORT.

“Leeds have got to go to Oxford United, it looks to me like maybe Leeds are blowing it.

“One win in six, okay, this is now about turning it around, obviously you’ve still got to play Preston, who are also fighting for their survival, then Stoke, then Bristol City, who have really turned their season around.”

Daniel Farke will pay with his job if he doesn’t turn things around

Farke had sympathies after Leeds failed to get promoted last season despite scoring 90 points, and was given one more chance to get it done this year.

However, Leeds are following a similar pattern to last season by unravelling at the business end of the season, while teams around them pick up form.

The Leeds boss has piled more pressure on himself by almost guaranteeing the press that Leeds will be in the Premier League next season.

No one will care if Leeds just about get over the line or get promoted through the playoffs, but promotion is almost a necessity for him in the coming weeks.

The German will not get another crack at it next season if Leeds do not get the job done in the coming weeks.
