Leeds United face setback in Championship title hopes

After two consecutive victories following the FIFA international break, Leeds United experienced a frustrating outing on the road, settling for a scoreless draw against Bristol City FC on Saturday at Ashton Gate Stadium.

The Whites had previously secured a 2-0 win over Sheffield United and a 2-1 victory against Watford, both at Elland Road. With that positive momentum, Daniel Farke and his team aimed to carry their success into their match against a mid-table Bristol City side.

Leeds United managed eight shots in the first half, while the home side had three, and the match went into halftime still scoreless. In the second half, Leeds increased their total to nine shots, but Bristol City only managed one. Despite the efforts from both teams, neither could find the net.

Does the draw against Bristol City affect Leeds United’s chances of winning the Championship?

Danny Mills believes Leeds United needs to improve on their performance against Bristol City if they want to win the Championship. Daniel Farke’s team had a chance to level on points with Sunderland at the top of the table but missed that opportunity and Mills shared his thoughts on the club’s title aspirations on talkSPORT after the scoreless draw.

“Unfortunately, now for them, it gives those around them an opportunity to go and win and put a little bit of a gap between them,” Mills said (h/t MOT Leeds News).

“Everybody around the football club midweek were…, ‘We’re going to win this league’. They’re going to have to perform a little better than that if that’s what’s going to be the case.”

Despite the draw, Leeds United remain outside the two automatic Premier League promotion spots, trailing first-place Sunderland by five points and Burnley having the goal differential tiebreaker over Daniel Farke and his team.

With such a tight race, a win over Plymouth Argyle is ideal, considering they’re at the bottom of the Championship table, so it’s an opponent that the Whites should be taking all three points. A draw or even defeat would be tough to take for the squad, who are trying to avoid the Championship Play-Off for a second straight season.
