Leeds United fans all say the same thing about Harry Gray’s Rotherham move – ‘Hard to believe…’

Harry Gray made his senior debut for Leeds United towards the end of last season at the age of 16. However, he has not made another appearance for the Whites.

He is the latest Leeds player to come out of the illustrious Gray family, and that has brought more focus on his development as the 17-year-old striker continues to learn his trade.

Daniel Farke has been clear about not wanting to put pressure on the young striker and has not played him this season, despite Harry training regularly with the first team.

The young striker was not part of the FA Cup win over Derby, which made it clear that he could be on his way out. Leeds have agreed on a deal to loan him out to Rotherham in League One.

Leeds United fans react to the impending departure of Harry Gray

Leeds fans have been waiting for a glimpse of Harry, who has been scoring for fun in youth football, but has not received a single opportunity in the first team this season.

The supporters have been keen to see Farke play the young forward this season. However, they are now unlikely to see him in a Leeds shirt again before next season.

A loan move for a youngster is nothing new, but his surname makes Harry special for Leeds fans, and the supporters are not happy about the club he is set to join.

A Leeds fan insisted that Rotherham are struggling in League One and their forward line has been poor all season. Supporters believe it is not the kind of environment Harry needs at this moment for his development.

One supporter said, “Find it hard to believe we didn’t have more ideal suitors for Harry Gray.

“He’s going to a League One club in the relegation zone, and near the bottom for every major attacking metric too.”

Another Leeds fan added, “That’s a lot of pressure to completely turn their fortunes around overnight.

“Tough place to send Harry Gray. We don’t do ourselves any favours with our youth players.”

A couple more Leeds fans are insistent that loaning him out to Rotherham is a strong move, given what Harry needs at this stage of his development.

“Anyone else think Harry Gray to Rotherham is a rather strange one?

• In a League One relegation scrap.

• A team that’s near the bottom of the table in almost every attacking metric.

“It’s hard to believe Harry will gain much confidence from this move, and may perhaps return to Elland Road with a relegation on his CV. However, I really hope that I’m wrong.”

Leeds need this loan move to work out

Harry is not only from an illustrious family of Leeds stars, but he is also considered one of the best young talents to come out of the academy since his brother Archie made the breakthrough a couple of years back.

Leeds fans are desperate to see Harry succeed and become a top player for the club in the future. They are emotionally invested in his development.

They are also unhappy about Farke not even giving the young striker a single opportunity to impress in the senior squad this season, after he extended his contract.

Harry Gray’s appearances, goals and assists across competitions this season
Competition Games Goals Assists
Premier League 2 7 6 1
EFL Trophy 2 2 1
Premier League International Cup U21 2 0 0
National League Cup 2 3 0
FA Youth Cup 1 0 0
Total 14 11 2

Presumably, the Gray family have given their blessing to the loan move for Harry to Rotherham, but Leeds need this gamble to work out.

If Harry struggles at Rotherham, his development could be affected, and Daniel Farke and the club hierarchy will face the wrath of the supporters.

If his development is not handled properly, Harry has suitors such as Manchester City and Tottenham to turn to next summer.
