Leeds United sit at the summit of the Championship table with a three-point lead over their challengers. A good Christmas period coupled with Sheffield United and Burnley stumbling in recent games mean the Whites are looking like the real deal for automatic promotion. The club are in the middle of the winter transfer but there has been very little noise about them signing anyone at this stage. Daniel Farke has indicated that Leeds won’t bring in new faces unless they are forced to in the middle of the season.
The Whites are looking to press forward their advantage with another win at Hull City on Saturday and look to build their lead at the top of the Championship standings.
Following a gruelling festive schedule, Leeds have emerged as the prime contenders for automatic promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season.
However, Leeds fans have their eyes on the winter window and who the club could bring in before the end of January to further strengthen the squad and boost their chances of promotion.
But Farke has very different ideas about what the club could do in the winter window and for the moment, it seems Joe Gelhardt’s potential departure is set to be the only significant transfer business this month.
The Whites supporters are worried that Leeds won’t sign anyone and the team’s struggles towards the end of last season are still fresh in their memories.
However, the fans must trust Farke if he says he doesn’t need players despite the perceived gaps in the squad that only appear when the transfer window comes along.
Daniel Farke has done enough for Leeds fans to trust his judgement
The Leeds boss indicated that there is a chance that too much activity in the winter window could hurt the balance of his squad.
Daniel Farke is known for being circumspect about adding new players to a settled squad in the middle of the season as he feels it could hurt the harmony inside the dressing room.
Leeds apparently have money to spend and the manager admitted that the recruitment team are ready to act if they need players in the winter window.
However, it seems the Leeds boss would prefer to work with the current squad for the rest of the season and would unlikely sign anyone this month.
Leeds are only likely to act if they suffer serious injuries in January and for the moment, Farke is happy with the make-up of his squad for the rest of the campaign.
Farke has done enough in the last 18 months to earn the trust of the Leeds fans. They could moan about the end-of-the-season last year but Leeds still scored 90 points and would have got promoted to the Premier League in any other season in the last quarter century.
He managed to rebuild the squad last summer despite the departures of three massive players and his side are now at the top of the Championship table.
It’s time the Leeds fans trust the manager’s judgement and park their concerns about the team.
Are there areas in the Leeds squad that could do with some strengthening?
However, strengthening some areas of their squad could make the fans feel a bit more at ease about the team’s prospects this season.
For example, Leeds do not have a dependable cover if Joel Piroe gets injured. Mateo Joseph has just scored twice this season and Patrick Bamford is yet to hit the back of the net.
Leeds could also do with some strengthening in their full-back areas. First-choice left-back Junior Firpo is injured; Sam Byram has also been feeling the effects of a gruelling schedule.
Jayden Bogle is recovering from a dead leg and Leeds do not have another right-back in their squad who could be comparable with a player who is considered the best in his position in the Championship.
However, the Leeds boss seems confident about the options in his squad and unless there are serious injuries, he will bet on these players getting them back to the Premier League at the end of the season.
