Leeds United have already signed six new players to bolster their options ahead of their Premier League return, but Igor Paixao is one player the club are pushing to take to Elland Road in the ongoing summer transfer window.

Paixao was a standout performer for Feyenoord last season, and his performances have attracted attention from several clubs across Europe in the ongoing summer transfer window. Leeds’ promotion has made it possible for them to emerge as a contender to sign him ahead of the new season.

Leeds sporting director Adam Underwood and a few other officials met the player and his representatives last week to present their project to him and convince him to move to Elland Road this summer.

The Whites have also used Raphinha as an example for Paixao to follow and insisted that he could have the same career path if he moves to Leeds in the ongoing transfer window.

However, Marseille have been leading the race to sign him until now.

Can you name these 10 former Leeds United strikers?

Marseille set to make final offer for Leeds United target Igor Paixao, but he is unlikely to join them

Paixao has approved a move to Marseille and has agreed on personal terms on a five-year contract with Roberto De Zerbi’s side for a potential transfer.

However, the negotiations between the French club and Feyenoord have dragged and the Dutch giants are yet to receive an offer that could satisfy them.

According to Dutch magazine Voetbal International, Marseille are set to make their final bid for the player today, but a move now seems unlikely.

It has been claimed that there is more of a chance of Paixao staying at Feyenoord for the moment than joining the French giants in the ongoing transfer window.

Marseille are yet to meet Feyenoord’s demands for a £30m fee, and it seems unlikely that they will agree to pay that figure.

Feyenoord want to see Marseille’s final offer today, but Paixao’s chances of joining the French club have diminished rapidly.

Leeds set to get a breakthrough

Despite talk of Paixao’s move to Marseille being a done deal over the weekend, Leeds never walked away from the talks, and they are still interested.

Leeds believe the Brazilian winger can be a real game changer and add much-needed pace and panache to their attack in the Premier League next season.

They have been keeping tabs on the situation closely, and are prepared to move in and present their offer as soon as it becomes clear Marseille are out of the race.

The Whites are prepared to meet Feyenoord’s asking price and offer Paixao a lucrative contract to move to Elland Road in the ongoing window.

Today could be the day when Leeds move an inch closer to signing one of their top targets for the summer.
