Leeds United have to act fast if they want to replace a key player in the current first team.
Junior Firpo has turned his career around since arriving in England. The fullback joined from Barcelona in 2021. Firpo barely played in his first few seasons at the club as he struggled with injury and fitness.
But the past two seasons, the 28-year old has been reliable and has even produced great output; Firpo had seven assists in the league last season. When asked about his future in a recent interview, the left back refused to give a straight answer:
“I have my options, I think everyone knows, it’s not a thing that I can hide. I had my options and I could go away, but as you say, my family is settled here. We are doing really good at the moment, but we don’t know what the future will say for me.”
As a result, the club are already on the search for a replacement.

Archie Brown has been linked with a move to Elland Road, with reports claiming he could join the club as early as January. The Gent defender is not a new target, Leeds United pursued him in 2021 and just last year.
With Junior Firpo’s contract up in the summer, he is free to enter talks with other clubs on 1st January 2025. This could accelerate any potential move for Archie Brown. Former Leeds United man Carlton Palmer has backed the Whites to beat out Chelsea and Spurs to the signing of Brown:
“It would be a coup for them if they could pull it off and the fact that they could offer him first-team football now and the way they’re going now, they will hopefully see it over the line and get promotion.
“He’ll have more chance of playing in Leeds United’s first-team than he would with Tottenham, West Ham and Chelsea. It would be a massive coup for Leeds United, but we’ll have to wait and see,”
A £15million fee has been mentioned for the England U20 player.
Could Archie Brown arrive at Elland Road in January?
Brown has mentioned his desire to return to England and play Champions League football. Leeds United are quite far off playing in the Champions League, but the club could be playing Premier League football as early as next year.
The club will also offer a straight path to the first team as he would come in to replace Junior Firpo. The decision lies with Gent, if they want to sell the 22-year old.
