Leeds United have golden opportunity to sign 20g/a midfield ace – Daniel Farke is ‘eager’

Leeds United

The last transfer window for Leeds United ended up with the club scrambling to make some signings to wrap up their transfer window. During the summer, the club’s ownership vowed to help the team stay up.

And the recruitment in the market reflected this; the Whites were able to spend over £100 million on 10 new players. The early part of the window saw Leeds United sign defenders and midfielders. Fans complained that the team needed goals and had to go out and get attacking options. After a late scramble where multiple moves failed, the fans had to be content with the signings of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Noah Okafor and Lukas Nmecha.

Leeds had had a decent season in the Premier League, but the 49ers saw that the team needed reinforcements if they were to stay up this season. So the ownership went out and added Facundo Buonanotte. However, their deal for Jorgen Strand Larsen failed to pay off, with the Norwegian heading to Crystal Palace.

Leeds United linked with surprise move for attacking midfielder

Daniel Farke has been keen on a profile of Facundo Buonanotte for a while; his systems needed that key midfielder who has the spark to turn games around. With Strand Larsen almost guaranteed to be off the table, new reports are emerging concerning a new target. The Daily Mail have reported that Leeds United are trying to land midfielder Eduard Spertsyan before the window closes.

The Armenian international currently holds the Player of the Year title in Russia, and is one of the best players in their league. Spertsyan has eight goals and 12 assists for FC Krasnodar this season. It is believed that Daniel Farke asked for the 25-year old, with the Whites keen to wrap up the deal by the deadline.

Club lack goals in the team

Leeds United Top Scorers This Season
Player Goals Games
Dominic Calvert-Lewin 9 22
Lukas Nmecha 5 19
Brenden Aaronson 4 23
Anton Stach 3 21
Joe Rodon 2 22

Leeds lack goals from the attack and midfield; and that is why the Whites were scrambling to add quality in the final days of the summer window. The season has gone okay for the club, but fans are nervous any time the team is chasing a lead of trying to get a result. And the last two games have clearly showed that. The Whites were not able to generate any decent chances against Arsenal, and in the draw with Everton, they had many chances to score. If Leeds United want to get a deal for Eduard Spertsyan across the line, it could define their season.
