Leeds United have the edge in pursuit of major signing

Over the past few transfer windows, Leeds United have been hard at work fixing problem areas within the squad.

Since the club was relegated from the Premier League there has been a massive restructuring of personnel. Daniel Farke has also been involved in the recruitment process, he was the direct influence in the signing of some players recently.

The team’s midfield was a huge concern, but the signings of Ethan Ampadu and Illia Gruev solved most of the issues. Jayden Bogle’s arrival also meant the club had a reliable right back for the first time in a few seasons. Left back is now the position the club is addressing.

Junior Firpo and Sam Byram could leave the club next year when their contract expires. Leeds would lose their two main left back options in the matter of months. Firpo remains silent on his future at Elland Road, while there has been no news on Sam Byram so far.

One of the players the club has targeted to fill the position is Gent’s Archie Brown. The former Derby County defender has drawn a lot of attention across Europe. He recently played for the England U20 side and is rated as a very good prospect. With Premier League clubs also circling, Leeds have a fight on their hands to sign the 22-year old.

Ex-Leeds man Carlton Palmer weighed in on where he thinks Archie Brown should decide to go:

“…if the player is sensible, even if you want to go and play in a Premier League side, you look at the type of clubs interested in signing you, and you have to wonder whether you’ll go straight into the side and play, so Leeds could well be in the race.

“It would be a coup for them if they could pull it off and the fact that they could offer him first-team football now and the way they’re going now, they will hopefully see it over the line and get promotion. He’ll have more chance of playing in Leeds United’s first-team than he would with Tottenham, West Ham and Chelsea.”

Elland Road is the perfect landing spot for Archie Brown

The defender will no doubt ask for assurance of first team football, something he will not be guaranteed if he joins a Premier League side. However, the path at Leeds is very clear. If the club continues this form, they might also be in the Premier League soon.
