Leeds United huge injury doubt as player withdraws from international duty

Leeds United will be in good spirits heading into the international break. The Whites’ start to the season has seemed a bit shaky, but ultimately, they find themselves in a decent position so far.

Four points from a possible nine, while keeping two clean sheets is a very good positive. Leeds beat Everton in the opener, and held Newcastle to a draw over the weekend. Elland Road has been a huge factor in both results, as the club continue their great form on their home ground. Leaving deadline day with no new signings is a blow, but there is optimism for the games ahead.

The Leeds attack however, has not been in the best shape. The club have scored just one goal from open play in four matches. And without reinforcements, Daniel Farke will have to try and stick with what works up front.

QUIZ: Can you name the team Leeds United signed these players from in the 2000s?

The end of the international break cannot come quick enough for the Whites. Key midfield duo Ethan Ampadu are expected to be back from their injuries in that time frame. Ampadu picked up his injury in the opener, while Tanaka went off injured in the Arsenal game.

Leeds now have another potential injury blow after Joe Rodon pulled out of international duty with Wales. According to Adam Pope, the injury does not look to be serious, and will be ready in time to face Fulham.

Depth is enough to cover injury woes

If Rodon’s injury is worse than expected, Leeds can finally call on Jaka Bijol and Sebastiaan Bornauw off the bench. The two new signings featured in the EFL Cup tie exit to Sheffield Wednesday, but Daniel Farke was pleased with their performances.

“I thought Sebastiaan (Bornauw) was very good after so long out injured. Defensively I did not thing he did many things wrong and was tidy throughout the game.

“Jaka (Bijol) also impressed again after such a time out. He was very good in the air and did what he needed to at the back, it was a solid performance from him.

“In all at the back I thought we were very good but in offence there was obvious improvements that we need to make. This will come with time and more minutes together will only help.”
