Leeds United hunting down 18-year-old star

Leeds are a club on the up. The future looks bright at Elland Road but it could be even brighter as United finally look set to capture one of England’s most promising youngsters after a deal has alluded them for so long.

A year ago, Leeds underlined their interest in Wigan Athletic youngster Sean McGurk. However, he remained with the Lancashire club last season and starred in the FA Youth Cup for them.

However, the door has been opened for Leeds to finally get their man. The Sun journalist Alan Nixon recently revealed that McGurk’s current deal at Athletic comes to an end in little over a week. Wigan have offered him a new contract but McGurk has yet to put pen to paper.

McGurk is an exciting prospect who excels in an attacking midfield role however he can also operate on the right wing.

This season he appeared to be a cut above his fellow youngsters as he scored and assisted in a titanic battle with Everton in the FA Youth Cup. Wigan may have lost, but he simply shone.

Leeds United have experience in prying away Wigan’s best youngsters. In 2020 they acquired the services of Joe Gelhardt who made his professional debut for Athletic just three months after his 16th birthday.

United could very well bring the two together in the coming years to forge an exhilarating attacking duo.
