Leeds United now hold a six-point advantage over the relegation zone, and there’s a growing sense inside the club that Premier League survival is well within their grasp.

With safety edging closer, thoughts are already starting to drift towards the summer. The Whites are mapping out ambitious plans and doing the early groundwork to strengthen the squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Signing a new goalkeeper is likely to be a priority when the transfer window opens, and Leeds are also preparing to step up their interest in Middlesbrough midfielder Hayden Hackney with a serious approach.

However, Leeds still have major reasons to go back for a player they wanted last summer, given he will be available on a free transfer in the next transfer window.

Leeds are still in the mix to sign Harry Wilson on a free transfer

Harry Wilson scored again in Fulham’s 2-1 win over Tottenham at Craven Cottage on Sunday as he continues to shine this season for the London club.

He almost joined Leeds on deadline day last summer and is almost certain to leave Fulham on a free transfer in the coming months, as he is yet to sign a new contract.

According to Football Insider, Everton will make another push to sign the attacker next summer, but Leeds have continued to get linked with a move for him.

Premier League 27 9 6 2,102′
EFL Cup 3 0 0 157′
FA Cup 2 1 1 37′
Total 32 10 7 2,296′

Wilson’s performances this season must have strengthened Leeds’ belief that they should have succeeded in signing him last summer.

Leeds are definitely interested in the winger despite the lack of space in Daniel Farke’s team for natural wide men.

Wilson can play across the forward line, and Farke will likely find a way to accommodate a player of his quality if Leeds end up signing him.

Wilson’s form puts him just behind Haaland this year

Harry Wilson has scored nine times and registered six assists in 27 Premier League appearances for Fulham in the ongoing campaign, showing what Leeds missed out on last summer.

However, his recent form is even better with 11 goal contributions since the beginning of December, which puts him in the top echelons of Premier League attackers.

Only Erling Haaland, with 14 goal contributions, has outperformed the Fulham attacker during his period.

Wilson’s form is likely to ensure that, as a free agent, he won’t be short of suitors at the end of the season, and Leeds need to move fast on him.

The Whites are keen to secure survival first, but they need to start engaging with the Welshman’s entourage to steal a march on some of their rivals ahead of next summer.

Wilson has had a good season but is unlikely to get many more ater this. Losing to Sunderland last night exposes 2 of Leeds weak points. We can’t perform clubs that time waste and we have no game changer players. What was the point of getting Buonanotte on a loan when he is even the contributing. Again the transfer gamble failed. We needed to bring in a player who could have made a difference in the last couple of matches especially with Okafor out too. Now we are back into the mix hoping results go against fellow relegation rivals. Other teams have got our measure – we cannot think we are going to beat Burnley or Wolves – we need luck now because we just cannot grind out a win.
