Leeds United interested in signing French international immediately

A lot has been made about Leeds United’s midfield troubles in recent weeks despite the fact that Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell have stepped up in recent weeks, Daniel Farke most certainly has problems he needs to address.

This largely comes down to injuries with Leeds United without both Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev which has left Farke scratching his head over how to add more depth to the middle of the park in the short term.

Unsurprisingly, this has led to discussions about the prospect of bringing in a free agent immediately whilst others have linked Leeds United with young players from the Premier League’s big hitters. In fact, two of the Premier League’s title challengers have seen their players linked with Leeds United at the beginning of this week.

Leeds linked with Liverpool and Arsenal youngsters

Football League World’s Adam Elliott compiled a list of targets that Leeds United should consider leading to both Liverpool‘s Tyler Morton and Arsenal‘s Ethan Nwaneri being linked with moves to Elland Road.

Both would make fine additions to Farke’s midfield options especially Morton given the experience he has picked up making odd appearances for Liverpool alongside their biggest stars as well as his combined 79 appearances for Leeds United’s Championship rivals Blackburn Rovers (in 2022/23) and Hull City (in 2023/24).

However, neither would resolve the immediate issues plaguing Farke’s squad which is why the Whites have been linked with immediate moves for free agents. It was reported that Leeds United reportedly brought in Francis Coquelin for a training session to evaluate whether the experienced midfielder could be a valuable addition to their depleted midfield and they have also been linked with a move for veteran Cheikhou Kouyaté from Nottingham Forest. Now though a new name has emerged.

As reported by Leeds Live, United also have Joshua Guilavogui on their transfer radar. The 34-year-old departed Mainz at the expiry of his one-year deal with the club at the end of last year. He would bring huge experience to the squad having been capped seven times by France, made over 250 appearances for VfL Wolfsburg including a spell as their  club captain, as well as a stint with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid.

According to the report, Leeds are assessing a number of free agents including the Frenchman with the hope that one of them can be drafted in immediately to boost Daniel Farke’s pursuit of promotion back to the Premier League. This comes after he was pictured at Friday’s game against Sheffield United.

Time will tell if Leeds opt to make a formal offer for Guilavogui or if they consider other options. For now, Leeds will persist with Tanaka and Rothwell, but they remain linked with a number of players including a former Liverpool forward which you can read about here.
