Leeds United January transfer chase heats up as window plan emerges

Leeds United January transfer

Leeds United entered the October international break with two clear judgments. The Whites are looking for wingers in the market, and Wilfried Gnonto is garnering interest from Saudi Arabia.

The Yorkshire-based outfit remains advantageous in the Gnonto problem. The Italian’s contract runs till 2028 at Elland Road. However, it is also important to notice that the winger has been underwhelming this season with zero goals and zero assists.

The situation at Elland Road

Sky Sports reported that Daniel Farke is in the market for a winger as the Whites are monitoring options for January. A late move for Harry Wilson didn’t materialise, hence the club wants to continue their strategy for the winter.

Dan James recently rolled his ankle setting alarms at Elland Road. The winger is set to be out for six weeks, as the unavailability will tighten up the front for Farke.

Gnonto is also seemingly attracting interest from Saudi Arabia, and a move in January would need to be justified with further incomings down the flank.

However, the Whites will make sure to squeeze every pound out of the Italian as a long-term contract offers them leverage for a premium in the market.

PSR is also a big variable, though, as Leeds United will want to stay under guidelines. Elland Road will be going through a big change as the 49ers enterprise has planned an expansion, which will need approval.

A winger remains in the priority list as Farke would like someone who can carry the ball and deliver into the box. This profile sits well with Leeds United’s current acquisitions and tactics.

Farke will also want to look at further injuries before making a decision. However, a possible sale of Gnonto might flip the decision, as the team will be left with enough funds after a Saudi move.

The Whites would like to make a move again for Wilson. Leeds are long-term admirers of the Welshman, but manager Marco Silva said he is confident in agreeing a new contract with the winger.

Having experienced a lower amount of game time last season, Wilson was up for a move to Elland Road. However, the winger has played all seven matches for the Cottagers this season.

Wilson started in five of those, and the club will be making a confident pitch to the winger with those numbers. The Welshman’s contract expires at the end of the season.

If a sale is in the books, then January seems probable, but the manager’s reluctance says otherwise. If Leeds United sell Gnonto for a premium, then the club might be able to offer more than expected to Fulham.
