Leeds United have enjoyed a sensational start to their Premier League campaign, with the Whites currently sitting in 16th, six points above the relegation zone.
Leeds‘ clash with Liverpool at Anfield on New Year’s Day will mark the halfway point of their top-flight campaign, with supporters and Daniel Farke being firmly aware that survival in the Premier League is far from guaranteed.
The 49ers cannot afford to let their squad stagnate, with the likes of West Ham almost certain to throw as much money as possible at the problem to get themselves out of their dire situation.
However, the 49ers seemingly recognise this, with Leeds’ top priority for the upcoming transfer window being revealed.
Leeds United targeting a new forward in January
Despite Dominic Calvert-Lewin being in the form of his life, United’s need for another striker is evident, particularly since Farke has started playing two up top at times.
Lukas Nmecha has struggled with injuries, and Joel Piroe is evidently not trusted by Farke in the Premier League, so if Calvert-Lewin were to get injured, Leeds’ season could quickly be derailed.
That is why supporters will be relieved to read the new report from Sky Sports on 30 December, which claimed that signing a new forward remains the “priority” for Leeds, with the Whites expecting at least one arrival in January.
A move for another centre-back has also not been ruled out, with Union Berlin’s Danilho Doekhi being one of the names linked with a move to Elland Road in the aftermath of Joe Rodon’s recent injury.
Noah Okafor yet to score as a striker for Leeds
Following Farke’s change to a 3-5-2, Okafor has often found himself playing as a supporting striker alongside Calvert-Lewin.
However, the Swiss has yet to find the back of the net in this new role, further reinforcing the need for a more recognised striker to arrive in West Yorkshire at some point in January.
| Noah Okafor’s stats since his last goal | Total |
|---|---|
| Appearances | 10 |
| Goals | 0 |
| Assists | 0 |
During this run of games, Okafor has led the line at points during games on six occasions.
Farke will be aware at the 25-year-old’s lack of output in recent months, and this will surely be something that is brought up with the recruitment team in January as he makes his case for needing to add another attacker to his squad.
