Leeds United join race for £15.5M La Liga star – Crystal Palace also keen

Leeds United still have some business to wrap up before the transfer window closes on Monday night. With the number of signings the club has made in the window, you would think recruitment would be wrapped up by now.

But Leeds adopted a ”back to front” approach at the start of the window. The focus was to bolster the defence and midfield before moving on to focus on attacking areas. But a failed move for Brazilian winger Igor Paixao derailed plans, forcing the Whites to frantically search for other targets.

Daniel Farke got his wish for new recruits in the last week, as Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Noah Okafor and James Justin have all been signed.

After the saga involving Wolverhampton Wanderers and Getafe midfielder Christantus Uche, it looks like the Premier League side are now out of the race.

According to reports from Spain, Leeds United have now entered the race, and will battle Crystal Palace for the Nigerian’s signature. Reporter Jose David Palacio has revealed that the Whites have held talks with the La Liga side. Getafe are looking for a fee around £15.5million.

“The only option is to go to the Premier League, and there are two teams pushing now. They are Leeds United, who contacted with Getafe to ask for the price of Christantus Uche at the end of the season.

“Crystal Palace has arrived in the last few hours. Uche cost 500,000. If it comes out for a figure of around €18m (£15.5m), that would save Getafe, and allow them to make the seven registrations missing.”

Uche could be the ideal goal threat from midfield

Out of the club’s current crop of midfielders, none of them have the productivity of Uche. Last season, he had 11 goal contributions in the league for Getafe. He was often deployed behind the striker, or sometimes as a striker himself.

With Leeds lacking goals and a cutting edge, the Getafe midfielder could be the solution this season.
