Fullbacks will be a serious concern for Leeds United this summer. The club currently has just two first team options in the position early in this transfer window.

The position was crucial in Daniel Farke’s tactics this season. Junior Firpo had 10 assists and four goals in the Championship, while Jayden Bogle had six goals and four assists. Leeds got a lot of production from their fullbacks in wide areas, and Farke is expected to continue with that into next season.

But now, there lies a bit of a problem when it comes to the current depth.

The Whites could lose Junior Firpo and Sam Byram in the coming weeks. Both held talks with the club over new contracts, but nothing has been agreed. Firpo has reportedly agreed to a return to Spain, as Real Betis finalize details.

Leeds are now finally about to address the left back position. According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Whites are ‘interested’ in signing Lille defender Gabriel Gudmundsson. The Swedish international has been a regular for the French side over the last season.

A move could be very possible; the 26-year old is on the final year of his contract, and could leave for a decent fee.

Gudmundsson statistics are a worry

If Leeds are looking for a replacement for Junior Firpo, the club need a lot of qualities. A player who can pass, cross and be a threat on the overlap. The 28-year old contributed to 14 goals in the Championship last season, and was a big part of Daniel Farke’s system

Gabriel Gudmundsson on the other hand, does not really stand out statistically. He is not a better passer, and his crossing is a concern. Last season, he only created 16 chances – Firpo had 48 chances created. If the club feel the Swedish international is the ideal replacement, then they really have to look elsewhere.
