Leeds United launch ‘audacious’ bid for Premier League star

Leeds United are set to land a star signing in the January transfer window.

The club are set to boost their squad strength as they aim for Premier League promotion. After the international break, Leeds have a tough test as they face Swansea City. The Whites sit in third place in the Championship after 15 games, just two points behind Sheffield United and Sunderland.

Daniel Farke has done a great job with the squad this season despite the problems the squad have faced. Leeds lost three of their key players in the summer, with Archie Gray, Georginio Rutter and Crysencio Summerville leaving for Premier League clubs. Disaster struck, as three months into the season, Leeds lost midfield duo Ethan Ampadu and Illia Gruev due to injury. Both suffered serious knee injuries within weeks of each other.

Despite scoring 24 goals in the Championship this season, the Leeds attack have struggled in most games this season. Daniel Farke has mentioned that this is down to the team lacking a creative number 10. Brenden Aaronson has played the role this season, but has operated as more of a goalscorer. The lack of chance creation has seen star striker Joel Piroe struggle in some games, most recently in the loss to Millwall.

Leeds United have reportedly made an offer to Manchester City for James McAtee. The young midfielder has been linked with a move away from the club as he seeks more playing time. Pep Guardiola has indicated that he wants McAtee to remain with the first team squad, but McAtee may have the final see. Former Leeds man Paul Robinson has shared that the club have made a very tempting offer to Manchester City:

“Leeds have made an audacious bid for him,” he told Football Insider.

“He’s had two really good loans at Sheffield United, West Ham have been in the mix and he’s been linked with Fulham, but it’s not just going to be them.

“And what would they be getting for him in January? £20-25million? £30million?

“There are a lot of clubs that would take James McAtee, whether it be on a permanent or loan deal.

“But I think Pep Guardiola might be selfish between now and the end of the season and keep him.

“He wants him to be a part of his squad and I think they’re going to need him.

“The amount of injuries this season, you’d have thought he would already have broken into that first-team with the talent he has.“
