The plight of Leeds United keeper Kiko Casilla is well documented. The last 12-18 months hasn’t been great for the former Real Madrid keeper. His time at the club looks all but over.
Many United fans believe that as well. In fact, many are urging the club to bring in a new keeper – an able deputy to Illan Meslier. Aston Villa’s Tom Heaton was suggested but reports suggest Leeds are now pushing for La Liga shot-stopper Fernando Pacheco according to Spanish news outlet GOL Digital.
An £8 million move for the 28 year old is well on the cards for Leeds United as they look to build on an impressive first season back in the Premier League. Their chances of signing the Spaniard could also be improved should his club – 19th placed Alaves – suffer relegation.
However, it won’t be plain sailing for United as they face opposition from Premier League rivals Southampton for his signature. It’s reported that the Saints are currently tracking the keeper and are preparing a bid.
Meanwhile, should Tom Heaton depart Aston Villa as expected in search of first team football, Villa may also make a move for the keeper to ensure they have an adequate back up to the impressive Emiliano Martinez.
Despite Alaves’ struggles this season the Pacheco has produced 6 clean sheets in 26 La Liga appearances this season – not bad. The former Spanish Under 21s international also has superb experience having come through the ranks at Real Madrid and having played over 200 games for Alaves. He wouldn’t be a bad buy by any stretch.
