Leeds United has probably lost the race for Premier League defender loan

Leeds United likely to lose race for Hugo Bueno

Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Hugo Bueno probably won’t play at Elland Road this season. Leeds United have been following the defender’s situation at Molineux and would like to have him on loan for the season.

The Whites face stiff competition from Netherlands’s Feyenoord and Scotland’s Celtic. Both the clubs can provide an agreed-upon playing time for the defender, unlike Leeds.

United cannot guarantee a fixed play time for their loan players considering the quality that Farke has on his side. This can be a problematic situation as contracted play time is a common practice among top-flight clubs.

Bueno will look forward to having regular playtime elsewhere as two full-backs stand in his way at Molineux. Rayan AĆÆt-Nouri and Matt Doherty have been in great form and they’ll probably be the starters under Gary O’Neil.

Despite limited opportunities, Wolves consider the Spaniard an important part of their plan this season. They’d probably like extra cover at the back in order to avoid unforeseen circumstances.

Leeds United will have to come up with an effective blueprint supporting their plans for the defender. If they can’t offer decisive play time then The West Yorkshire outfit is probably off the cards in Wolves’ eyes.

The Whites would like more than one reinforcement down the wings as only three full-backs currently play at Elland Road. Sam Byram, Junior Firpo and Jayden Bogle are the only assets Farke has down the wings.

Speaking with Voetbal International on YouTube, Feyenoord expert Martijn Krabbendam said that De Stadionclub would like to wrap a deal by the end of this week.

“A left wing defender is needed, because Hartman will not be back until around January. Smal is injured and they had actually already said goodbye to LĆ³pez, but now he is suddenly back in the starting line-up.”

“They are going to get someone there, probably Hugo Bueno from Wolves. They hope to get that done this week. It is a loan without a purchase option, because he simply bridges the gap until Hartman is back. So that does not have to be that complicated.”

As mentioned Marijn says that the Dutch giants would like to get a deal done this week. This is obviously due to the urgency the club is in following an injury crisis.

Leeds United aren’t on the front foot in regards to the Spanish defender. They have their eyes on other prospective players for now. But, if they would like more full-backs in the squad they’ll have to start taking this deal seriously.
