Leeds United loan watch – How six players are faring away from Elland Road

Leeds United have made a steady start to life back in the Premier League and have done a good job of allaying the fears around their ability to stay in the Premier League this season. However, they have a bunch of players out on loan, and some of them still may have a future at Elland Road.

Daniel Farke made a few tough decisions on certain players in the summer transfer window, and they were clearly told that they are not part of the manager’s plans for Leeds this season.

A couple of them may still return to Elland Road in the near future, but for a number of them, they have no future at Leeds, and their loan stint this season is an attempt to find a permanent move next summer.

Six Leeds United stars out on loan – Who’s thriving and who’s struggling?

Max Wober – Werder Bremen

Wober played very little football last season and was allowed to leave Leeds on loan to join Werder Bremen in the summer window. The German club have an option to buy him on a permanent deal. However, the centre-back is recovering from a hamstring injury and will not return to action before the November international break. He needs to prove his fitness and worth in the coming months to ensure he secures a permanent move to the Bundesliga outfit next year.

Largie Ramazani – Valencia

Daniel Farke revealed that Ramazani wanted to return to Spain in the summer and was allowed to leave on loan to Valencia. The Whites agreed to forego a recall clause as the Spanish giants were happy not to include an option to buy. The winger has not had any success since his return to Spain and has yet to start a game. He is scheduled to return to Leeds in the summer. Leeds still believe he can have a future at Elland Road, but his performances are not matching those expectations.

Mateo Joseph – Mallorca

Joseph burned a few bridges before he left Leeds on loan to join Real Mallorca in the summer. However, the Whites ensure they retain control of his long-term. He is another player who has admirers at Elland Road, and some still believe he has a future with the club. However, he has yet to score in Spain, and Real Mallorca are rooted to the bottom of La Liga. The Spaniard is still struggling to prove that he can turn his promise into something substantial senior level.

Joe Gelhardt – Hull City

Gelhardt joined Hull City on loan in the summer, but with his contract expiring next year, he has more or less left Leeds for good. He has been a key player for the Tigers this season, making ten appearances for the Tigers and providing two goals and one assist during that time as he found the net in a 3-2 win against Oxford United and a 4-2 defeat against Bristol City.

Isaac Schmidt – Werder Bremen

Schmidt had a deal in place to join Werder Bremen on loan for weeks, but Leeds only allowed the deal to go through once they signed James Justin from Leicester City. He scored on his debut in a 3-3 draw with Bayer Leverkusen and has gone on to make four appearances in German football’s top flight. However, he picked up an injury during the ongoing international break.

Charlie Crew – Doncaster Rovers

The highly-rated young midfielder is gaining experience at the League One club, with Doncaster experiencing a mixed start to life back in the third tier. He has made three league starts and has come off the bench in two League One matches. He has also featured in two League Cup games against Accrington and Tottenham. Crewe also gained a second senior cap for Wales after starting in a friendly against Canada during the September break.
