Leeds United loanee’s situation addressed by Frankfurt club chief after report of permanent transfer

On Monday, a report revealed that Leeds United defender Rasmus Kristensen would resolve his future. However, new information notes that the defender might not have both feet in Eintracht Frankfurt.

In June 2022, Kristensen signed a five-year contract with Leeds for a fee reported to be around £10 million. He officially joined the team on July 1, 2022, becoming Leeds’s second confirmed signing of the summer transfer window and reuniting with his former Salzburg teammate, Brenden Aaronson.

Since Leeds’ relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2022-23 season, Rasmus Kristensen hasn’t played for the club. The Danish defender has spent time on loan at two different teams, but one club is eager to keep him for the long term.

Last season, Kristensen joined AS Roma on loan, making 31 appearances, scoring one goal, and recording two assists. However, his stint with the Serie A side was short-lived, as he returned to Leeds afterward.

While Leeds welcomed back players like Brenden Aaronson and Max Wober, who also returned from loan spells during the 2023-24 season, Kristensen was sent out again—this time to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Eintracht Frankfurt denies triggering any Rasmus Kristensen clause

This season, Kristensen has made nine appearances for Frankfurt, contributing one goal and one assist. His performance has impressed the club, which now appears keen to secure him permanently.

According to a recent report from Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Eintracht Frankfurt is looking to make Kristensen’s move permanent. The club’s management is pleased with the right-back, who is currently under contract with Leeds until 2027.

Frankfurt plans to activate their option to buy, valued between €10 million and €12 million. Despite the report from Plettenberg, sporting director Timmo Hardung denied this information.

“Of course, we’re thinking about what role he might take on in the future at Eintracht Frankfurt and whether he can become part of the team,” Hardung said (h/t Fussball.News). “Rasmus has fit in really well with us. We’re thrilled to have him here, and I believe he’s happy to be here, too… Even if he does complain a bit sometimes… That’s a good thing. I really like that about him.”
