Leeds United make huge call on Sam Byram after title win – his future has been decided

Leeds United won the title in dramatic fashion on the final day of the season. It was such a tense game, but the Whites prevailed. The club topped off their season the best way possible, with the Championship trophy.

The day could not have gone off in the worst way possible after Plymouth took the lead on Saturday. An unfortunate own goal from Sam Byram who started in place of Junior Firpo. A shot ricocheted off the post and into his feet before bouncing into the back of the net.

Leeds were down at half time, but responded quickly in the second half – Wilfried Gnonto equalized within 10 minutes of the restart. Plymouth managed to hold Leeds for most of the second half, but a moment of magic from Manor Solomon in the 91st minute sealed the title.

Byram will be the happiest man in the world. Leeds won and lifted the league title on Saturday after his unfortunate mistake. The defender lifted the first major trophy of his career with the club. His career came full circle after initially joining as a trialist in pre season, before Daniel Farke made the call to sign him.

The defender has been at the club for two years, and is at the end of his contract. TEAMtalk have now revealed that Leeds will not extend his current deal, and Sam Byram will be free to leave in the summer. It is implied that the club will bring in defensive reinforcements this summer. Leeds have already reached out to Marseille over defender Leonardo Balerdi this summer.

Sam Byram will always remain in the fans’ hearts

Byram made one of the most heartfelt returns to West Yorkshire two years ago. Since then he has played an important role for the club. He has always been a solid performer regardless of whether he was a starter or a contributor off the bench. One of those players in the dressing room who is a great presence with other players.

His send off was perfect; winning promotion and lifting the trophy in the process. It would have been a special moment for Byram, who was part of the group that lost the play-off final last year.
