Leeds United make shock transfer decision – player exit anticipated

Leeds United have done a great job with recruitment this summer. The club have added seven new players this summer, sticking to a very good plan.

The Whites added some quality and depth to the team for less than £100million this summer. And with weeks left in this transfer window, there could be more new faces added.

But the club have made just one sale this summer, selling Diogo Monteiro to FC Arouca. The fee was not confirmed, but it is reported that there is a sizable sell-on clause. All the other exits this summer have been temporary deals – Max Wober, Charlie Crew, Joe Gelhardt and Mateo Joseph.

Leeds know they have to balance their books after the summer transfer window they have had. The main names expected to depart at the end of the month include Patrick Bamford, Sam Greenwood and Illan Meslier.

Meslier’s case has been every unique. Since the end of last season, it has been public knowledge that he will leave the club. So far all the links to the shot-stopper have been nothing concrete.

Now, the Whites have made their decision. FourFourTwo are reporting that Leeds have made Meslier available for sale at around £5million to £6million in a desperate attempt to sell him.

Keeper prefers move away from England

Per the report from FourFourTwo, the keeper is interested in a move outside England. His agents are working on exits to clubs outside England. Recent reports have linked Meslier to Paris Saint-Germain and Lille, a move could be on the cards later this month.

The keeper is rumoured to have vacated his Yorkshire property as anticipation of a move to a new club.

Meslier sale would not be a financial loss

The 25-year old arrived at Elland Road over four years ago for a £5million fee. This figure has been all but amortised in Leeds’ books now. So even selling him for £5million to £6million would represent an accounting profit for the Whites in 2025-26.
