Leeds United players are expected to reassemble as a complete squad in the coming days once the international break is over. Some of the players will be feeling an inch taller after doing well with their national teams and one such Whites star has indicated that he could be considering his future at Elland Road.
Daniel Farke will be pushing to ensure that his players after they return, shift their focus back on the automatic promotion goal and the game against Swansea City at Elland Road this weekend.
A few Leeds United players have tasted success during the break including Ao Tanaka who became the first White to book his ticket for the 2026 World Cup when he helped Japan get the job done last week.
However, a certain Leeds player has forced everyone to sit up and take notice of him after he made a shock debut for his national team in the last few days.
“What’s next?” – Leeds United man unsure of future
It is safe to say, that very few expected Switzerland to call up Isaac Schmidt to the national team on the back of 25 minutes of Championship football across seven substitute appearances.
A lesser number of people would have expected to see him start for the Swiss against Northern Ireland last week but he did, played 68 minutes and earned the praise of Switzerland boss Murat Yakin.
It is not unnatural that the defender is now wondering whether he needs to move on from Leeds in the summer after a season where he has ‘barely’ played.
However, the defender insisted that the club promised him that they had a long-term plan for him. Whether that would be enough to hold on to Schmidt in the summer is anyone’s guess at this point.
“After a year in which I barely played, I’m inevitably wondering what’s next”, Schmidt was quoted as saying by Swiss broadcaster SRF.
“But I also have to consider the circumstances.
“The club officials have assured me that they are planning for me long-term. I just have to be patient and wait for my chance.”
Will Leeds miss him? Do not think so
Schmidt has done well in the last few days to show that he deserved more chances to play for Leeds this season and Daniel Farke should have shown a little more faith.
However, would he replace Jayden Bogle or Junior Firpo in the starting eleven at Elland Road? Not a chance.
Can you name the Leeds game these 10 goal celebrations are from?
Farke, for better or for worse, likes to trust a small group of players and hates rotating players in defence. It is no surprise Schmidt has not played enough as Bogle has hardly been injured and Sam Byram was used when Firpo was missing.
If the Swiss decides to move on from Leeds in the summer to ensure he continues to get selected for Switzerland, then good for him. However, the Whites will not miss him.

the last comment on the post “the whites will not miss him” ,well in not too distant past Leeds have let many stars go they have regretted and will do again
