Leeds United Miss Out on £15 million Bid as Championship Rivals Swoop In on Loan Deal

Jesurun Rak-Sakyi in action for Crystal Palace as Leeds United's £15m bid falls short, with the winger heading to Championship rivals on loan

The absence of Crysencio Summerville was sorely felt in the opener against Portsmouth. Leeds United drew 3-3 with the newly promoted side in a thrilling encounter at Elland Road.

The score for the home team could’ve been doubled if not for the missed chances. The opportunities were there but The Whites lacked a player who couldn’t miss.

This is what Summerville offered before he left for West Ham United in a deal worth £25 million plus add-ons. The Dutchman won the Championship Player of the Season for the 2023/24 season following his impeccable performances.

Although even a 31-goal contribution wasn’t enough for The West Yorkshire outfit to move up in the tier system. The club failed to get promoted courtesy of a 0-1 loss against Southampton in the promotion play-off finals.

Even with a player of such calibre, United didn’t end up in the Premier League. Hence, the winger’s departure calls for a replacement at least of the same level or better.

The primary target to replace Summerville was Jonathan Rowe. But rumours of him moving to France have been intense. French giants Marseille have reportedly hijacked the deal following a bigger bid than The Whites.

After this blunder, The 49ers moved to their backup plan Jesurun Rak-Sakyi. They failed in gaining Crystal Palace’s attention as a permanent deal offer made The Eagles disinterested.

According to Sky Sports, Sheffield United have finally got their hands on Jesurun Rak-Sakyi. Being the front runners in the deal, Jesurun will be heading north for medicals.

Leeds United’s blunder was a decisive one as Crystal Palace was only keen on a loan deal. The club even has a January recall clause in the loan conditions further emphasizing his position at Selhurst Park in the long run.

Although Leeds United and Hull City had also agreed to the loan terms before, The Blades are the ones who’ll be acquiring the winger’s services for the season.

Missing on Rak-Sakyi is a big blow for The West Yorkshire outfit. The opener against Pompey signalled a quick move for a goalscorer if the club wants to play Premier League football next season.

United have also lost influence in the Jonathan Rowe deal. A £7 million offer saw rejection at Carrow Road as it was deemed too low for Rowe.

Marseille have come in with a £8 million offer but The Canaries are adamant on a £15 million valuation. The Whites have the money but whether they’ll splash it in East Anglia is to be seen.
