Leeds United have been working to add a few more signings to the squad before the January window ends. The Whites were expected to have a quiet window but things have burst into life.
Perhaps the 49ers have decided to take things seriously after what they failed to do in the summer window. Leeds have already brought Facundo Buonanotte on board till the end of the season, the Argentine midfielder was on the bench this weekend. According to Graham Smyth, the deal was concluded pretty quickly after contact between the two parties in December.
Reports have also emerged that the Whites could be in for another center forward before the window shuts. Leeds made an official enquiry for Wolves star Jorgen Strand Larsen, but the £40 million price tag could complicate things. Even though there are suggestions that the deal could still be made, nothing has been confirmed at this point.
Patrick Agyemang should not be Leeds United’s priority
Reports this week emerged that Derby County striker Patrick Agyemang is also on Leeds’ radar. Crystal Palace are also on the trail of the American international who has scored seven league goals in his first campaign in the Championship. However, unless it is the club’s last resort, Leeds United should not be pursuing the Derby striker.
| Club | Games | Goals |
|---|---|---|
| Crown Legacy FC | 12 | 10 |
| Charlotte FC | 72 | 22 |
| Derby County | 24 | 7 |
Agyemang is still very raw in the early stages of his career. He has been in senior professional football since 2023, and for the price tag the Championship side want, his output should merit it. Agyemang has just 29 career goals, and is yet to fully adapt to life in England. He struggled early in this season, and has only recently found his goalscoring touch at this point of the season.
Keeping Joel Piroe would be a better option
Rather than splash £20 million on a player who is not guaranteed to bring success, Leeds should stick to keeping Joel Piroe. At least the striker has years of experience under his belt, and can play a role as a backup when needed.
Looking at Piroe’s career and record in the Championship, there should be no way Patrick Agyemang should even be rated at a similar price tag. If Leeds do not find a proven option like Jorgen Strand Larsen, then the club need to find a very good alternative or stop the search for a new forward altogether.
