Leeds United now handed major transfer decision on Daniel Farke favourite before January

Leeds United are keen to bring in reinforcements in the January transfer window to boost their chances of Premier League survival in the 2025/26 season.

Daniel Farke is in a much stronger position at Leeds after a couple of good results. The Leeds manager now wants the club to help him improve his squad in January.

With the team now playing a 5-3-2 formation, Leeds need one more striker in their squad for the rest of the season, especially with Lukas Nmecha struggling with his fitness at the moment.

The club are also looking to bring in a winger or an attacking midfielder, and Emiliano Buendia has been a favourite of Farke since his days at Norwich City.

Leeds United learn fresh transfer update on Emiliano Buendia ahead of January

Aston Villa were prepared to sell Emiliano Buendia in the summer after he spent the latter half of last season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen.

Leeds were heavily linked with a move for him. However, the club had other priorities despite Farke’s obvious admiration for the player from their days at Norwich City.

However, the Argentinian midfielder has fought his way back into the reckoning at Villa and recently scored an injury-time winner against league leaders Arsenal.

According to Football Insider, Aston Villa boss Unai Emery is desperate for the club to offer the player a new contract.

His current deal expires in 2027, but the Villa boss does not want him to run down his contract at Villa Park amid the club’s PSR concerns.

The Spaniard is also keen to hold on to his key players in the January transfer window, and wants Buendia’s future sorted out in the coming weeks.

The former Norwich City star has been a key figure in the Villans’ impressive start to the campaign. No other member of the senior squad currently has more Premier League goal involvements than his six.

Leeds need Premier League-proven players like Buendia

Buendia is a personal favourite of Leeds manager Farke, who got the best out of him when they were together at Norwich City. Naturally, he would be keen to work with him again at Leeds.

However, more importantly, the Argentinian is Premier League proven and would slot straight into the attacking midfielder’s role in the Leeds team.

Leeds need their Janaury signings to come in and hit the ground running immediately. In their position, the club do not have the luxury of allowing a new signing time to bed in.

Emiliano Buendía — Aston Villa 2025/26 Season
Competition Matches Goals Assists Minutes
Premier League 13 4 2 536
Europa League 6 1 1 330
EFL Cup 1 0 0 16
Total 20 5 3 882

However, Buendia’s current form suggests that Villa and Emery would be reluctant to lose him in the middle of the season. A move last summer was more feasible.

But he is the kind of profile Leeds need in January if they are to improve their chances of Premier League survival this season.
