Leeds United now have clear path to appoint European winner to replace Daniel Farke

Leeds United are in the market for a new manager as Daniel Farke is likely to get sacked after next weekend. The club are looking at several options, but a few have emerged as top contenders.

Brendan Rodgers is one of the names linked with the job. However, the former Liverpool and Leicester manager is believed to be in no hurry to return to management just yet.

Leeds are also considering Gary O’Neil, who impressed at Bournemouth and Wolves, and would be keen to return to managing in the Premier League soon.

Former Tottenham and Nottingham Forest boss Ange Postecoglou has also been touted as a top contender to replace Farke, and Leeds now have a clear path towards him.

Leeds United have a clear shot at bringing in Ange Postecoglou to replace Daniel Farke

The 60-year-old had a solid first season at Tottenham and won the Europa League in his second year with Spurs. However, he was sacked earlier in the season.

He immediately returned to a job at Nottingham Forest. However, he only lasted 39 days at a club who were not the right match for him.

Postecoglou remains a wanted manager in the Premier League despite his experience at Forest. Leeds have their eyes on him, but there were suggestions Liverpool are also considering him as a potential replacement for Arne Slot.

However, according to Football Insider, Slot is safe for now at Liverpool despite their recent disastrous run of form.

The Liverpool board have no desire to sack him just yet, and they want to back their Premier League-winning manager with more funds in January after he spent more than ÂŁ400m in the summer.

This leaves Leeds with a clear shot at getting Postecoglou with Liverpool unlikely to sack Slot anytime soon.

Postecoglou will need signings in January

Ange Postecoglou’s teams are known for their ultra-attacking style. Leeds do not seem to have the players to implement his style of play at the moment.

If Leeds decide to rope in the Aussie in the coming days or weeks, they will have to back him with funds to bring in fresh forwards in the winter transfer window.

The 49ers do want to bring in a new manager in time for him to have a major say on transfers in January. However, they would have to provide assurances that the required funds would be made available.

There is zero value in bringing in an attacking coach like Postecoglou and asking him to work with the forwards in the Leeds squad.

The current set of forwards lacks the technical quality that the Aussie would demand, and he would need a striker and at least an attacking midfielder to make things work.

Whether Leeds would be prepared to back a new manager with such level of funds remains to be seen.

it would seem more likely that 49’s hedge their bets on a manager who ‘might’ keep Leeds up but more likely be able to win promotion again if relegated. No high profile manager is going to risk his reputation by risking Championship football next year. If Leeds are relegated, many of the present players will leave and the 49s will not want to spend much on good players. The 49s would be wise to sack the recruitment team immediately before Farke and get a more competent team to replace them.

Firstly, I agree with Wilks that if any sacking is to be carried out, it has to be the recruitment team. They have done a very diabolical recruitment during summer. The entire world can see as its so obvious. Any one of us would have done a better recruitment.

Secondly, if Postecoglou is of any good, he would not have been kicked out of Nott Forest so early after being terminated by Tottenham.
