Leeds United officially announce the departure of their best player

Leeds United announce the departure of Crysencio Summerville

After a few hiccups in the process, Leeds United have officially announced the departure of their best player Crysencio Summerville. This announcement comes in time after the second medical and probably an agreement for the contract length and final transfer fee for the player. These were the problems that arose during the transfer that led to Sky Sports Germany Reporter Florian Plettenberg doubting a late twist in the saga.

After the announcement, we can confirm that the transfer is officially a done deal. The winger will probably be a big shoe to fill in as the Dutchman won the EFL Championship Player of the Season award for 2023/24. Daniel Farke’s side will now need to boost their search for a new winger as Italian winger Wilfried Gnonto is also rumored for an exit.

Crysencio spent four seasons at Leeds United after his signing in 2020. He spent the majority of his senior career at Elland Road with only two seasons in the Netherlands. Summerville is the prospect of the famed Feyenoord’s academy which he joined at the age of 7. Ten years later, the winger signed his first professional contract with Feyenoord which lasted till the summer of 2021.

After two seasons away at FC Dordrecht and ADO Den Haag, Crysencio returned to Feyenoord at the end of the 2020-21 season. The Dutchman was offered a contract extension but the winger refused. He signed for Leeds United in September 2020 for an undisclosed fee.

After putting a pen on a three-year contract, Summerville extended it till 2026 in August 2022. Only six days after scoring his first Premier League goal, Crysencio scored the winner against Liverpool on 29th October 2022. This marked Leeds’ first win at Anfield since April 2001 and it also ended Liverpool’s 29-game unbeaten streak at home in the Premier League.

In 2024, Leeds United went on a 16-game unbeaten run where the Dutch winger played every game. Crysencio ended the 2023/24 season on a high with 21 goals and 10 assists which led him to win the EFL Championship Player of the Season. The 22-year-old has scored a total of 25 goals and 12 assists in his 5,779 minutes on the field for the Leeds first-team.

Many fans will remember Summerville’s goal against Bournemouth in November 2022. The Dutchman’s late winner helped The Whites win a thrilling match which ended 4-3. He was also a threat against Leicester City in March 2023 when Leeds were trying to stay afloat in The Prem. The Dutch winger provided an assist and was also a constant threat down the right.
