Leeds United on the brink of signing new defender – pre-contract already agreed

Leeds United transfers

It was unlikely that Leeds United were going to make any transfers this month, but now there have been some reports in the last few hours that could change everything.

The Whites’ relegation rivals are busy at work trying to reinforce their teams in their fight for survival. West Ham have been busy, and Nottingham Forest are also exploring deals. Leeds are yet to make any major moves but have been linked with some names.

Daniel Farke lead the club on an unbeaten streak to end the year, and even started this year with huge results against Manchester United and Liverpool. Unfortunately for the Whites, their streak ended when Newcastle beat them at St. James’ Park – Leeds have bounced back by winning their FA Cup tie with Derby County.

The club know that the fight for survival will not be easy, but Farke is managing with the players he has. The Leeds boss already admitted that he wants to keep all the players and rather add to the squad.

Leeds United set to welcome defender as part of January transfers

Leeds United are set to complete a deal for teenage defender Leonard Ngenge. The club are said to have reached a pre-contract agreement, with the move to become official soon. Ngenge has been on the Whites’ radar since last year; he was scouted in Nigeria and invited for trials later, where he was successful.

The player posted on his social media that he is in training at Thorp Arch, with reports confirming that an official announcement will be made in the near future. Ngenge is expected to join the U21s initially as he adjusts to life in England.

Club now need to focus on present concerns

Securing a player for the future is great, as Leeds had been pursuing Leonard Ngenge for a while. Fans will be glad that the move is finally over the line, but the ownership need to address the current concerns on the field.

The Whites are yet to add any reinforcements to the squad ahead of the second half of the season. Leeds did very well to string together that crucial run of games to end the year, but now they have to build on that. This is where the 49ers come in; they need to bring players that will boost the quality of the team for the rest of the season to give them a better chance of survival.
