Leeds United are set to clash with Everton on Monday night, but between now and that Premier League game, the club are sorting out some transfers. Facundo Buonanotte arrived on loan for the rest of the season last week.
The move came as a bit of a surprise, but Daniel Farke mentioned that the move was needed after Jack Harrison pushed to leave the club, and eventually joined Fiorentina in Serie A. Last year saw zero activity in the transfer window when the Whites were in the Championship, but this time around, the 49ers have been busy.
This week has seen the club pursue a big money move for Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.
Leeds United close in on move for Jorgen Strand Larsen
Friday saw a lot of updates about the Wolves striker; Leeds United reportedly had an initial bid of £30 million and add-ons rejected for Jorgen Strand Larsen. But sources at Elland Road were confident of a deal being done, and the transfer is far from over.
The Daily Mail are now reporting that Leeds have raised their offer for Jorgen Strand Larsen to £33 million plus £6 million in add-ons. The offer is now just £1 million shy of Wolves’ initial £40 million asking price. If the transfer does go through, it will beat the club-record £36 million package the Whites agreed with Hoffenheim for Georginio Rutter in 2023.
Fans will be shocked about latest update
This whole January transfer window has been a crazy ride for Leeds United fans. First the Whites pull off a deal for a player they missed out on in the summer, and now the club are on the verge of making a £40 million transfer. When Facundo Buonanotte joined, fans were a bit surprised that the ownership were able to add some quality to the team.
During the summer, club chiefs argued that the reason they missed out on making major signings was because they maxed out the PSR. So at the start of January, nobody really expect the club to splash the cash. Now, after adding a new attacking midfielder, and on the verge of signing a striker for that fee, it will come as a huge shock.
It also raises the question about if a sale will be made towards the end of the window. There has already been one exit, but Jack Harrison left on loan for the rest of the season. But how the club will make this £40 million fee work on the club’s financial books is something Leeds United will find out soon.
