Four defenders left Leeds United this summer either on loan or permanently. This has left some gap in the club’s defence that was apparent in the 3-3 draw against Portsmouth at Elland Road.
Luke Ayling and Liam Cooper’s contracts weren’t renewed. Both of the players played key roles at the club at one point. But now the club has probably decided to move past that era. Ayling has joined Middlesborough on a permanent deal.
Academy graduate Charlie Cresswell joined Toulouse and Rasmus Kristensen is on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt. Both transfers were an attempt to balance the books.
Leeds United’s first defensive interest this transfer window came in with Swiss talent Bruno Ogbus. The 18-year-old defender has attracted a lot of interest from Daniel Farke’s side with him being a priority.
According to Football Insider, as the club adds defenders to the shopping list, Bashir Humphreys also stays at the forefront for defensive options.
With Chelsea ready to send him away either on loan or permanently many clubs have shown interest in the defender. Earlier Fabrizio Romano reported that The Blues are keen on selling him permanently.
“Bashir Humphreys will leave Chelsea in the coming days either on loan or permanent. Leeds United and Burnley among clubs showing concrete interest, Bundesliga clubs also keen as England U21 international will try new chapter. As it stands, Chelsea prefer a sale.”

Bashir Humphreys Chelsea’s rising star poised for strategic move
As Chelsea would like to sell him permanently this provides a good opportunity for Leeds United to strengthen their defence. With the club’s focus broadening as the transfer window approaches, Bashir alongside Bruno will be a good deal for the backline.
But as the club faces a big rock in their way for Bruno Ogbus, the same goes for Bashir Humphreys. Unlike Bruno Chelsea are ready to sell Bashir but Championship rivals Burnely are also interested in the youngster.
There have been no bidding yet but the deal is set to get hot as deadline day approaches. Leeds United will have to move swiftly and strategically to secure both the rising stars.
Both the players have immense potential that will be helpful to The 49ers in the future. The West Yorkshire outfit is hoping to get promoted this season.
Last season the club missed out on promotion due to a 0-1 loss to Southampton in the promotion playoffs. This time the club is as keen as ever with the focus on building a Premier League retainer squad.
