This month, Leeds United signed veteran midfielder Josuha Guilavogui as a free agent for the rest of the season. However, that doesn’t mean the Whites won’t be looking at midfielders once the January transfer window opens.

After assessing a few options, the seven-time French international Guilavogui was identified as the man to plug the hole in the Leeds United midfield. He is a Bundesliga legend, last playing for Mainz but registering 250 appearances for VfL Wolfsburg as their club captain. He also had a spell in Spain for La Liga giants Atletico Madrid.

Leeds United tapped into the free agent market after injuries sidelined key players Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev. Their long-term absence left manager Daniel Farke with a real challenge.

In their place, Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell have stepped up, leading Leeds to wins over Sheffield United and Watford. But with the demanding Championship schedule, adding another player was essential to help Leeds navigate the season.

As a result, the Yorkshire side signed Guilavogui in a deal expected to be worth about £1 million (£20,000 per week).

Southampton, currently struggling in the Premier League, is also keen on O’Brien and are monitoring him as they aim to strengthen their midfield options for the second half of the season.

O’Brien has impressed in the U.S. with several standout performances for LAFC, where he’s made 15 appearances, contributing a goal and an assist along the way.

The energetic midfielder played a key role in helping LAFC secure the top spot in the MLS Western Conference, clinching a spot in the MLS Cup playoffs.

The 26-year-old joined LAFC on loan in July, with the deal running through December when the MLS season wraps up. The California club has the option to make the move permanent.
