The club continue their search for a new number one. Leeds players have reported to training this week, with the club preparing for their first pre-season friendly.
The Whites have reportedly identified a major target in goal. TEAMtalk are reporting that Lyon keeper Lucas Perri seems to be the first choice signing this summer. He could be available for around £20million. Leeds see Lyon’s financial troubles as the perfect opportunity to capitalize and sign the quality Brazilian stopper.
Journalist analyses Brazilian star
Perri had a decent campaign last season as he kept 10 clean sheets in 33 league games. Journalist Luke Entwistle has shared some insight into if the Brazilian would be a good fit for Leeds United.
“There are question marks about his footwork, and how safe he can be when under pressure consistently, but I like him as a shot-stopper, and I think that he’ll make progress, given that he’s only moved to Europe 18 months ago.” he said speaking to MOT Leeds News.
“He’s an interesting shout for Leeds in particular. They obviously need a goalkeeper, and I’m sure they’ll be wary of having someone who can’t use their feet, and I’m not saying that he’s in that category, but he did have a few hairy moments.
“I do think he would nonetheless be an upgrade on Meslier in that regard and also in terms of his shot-stopping.”
Will he be an upgrade on Meslier?
Statistically speaking, the Brazilian has a bit of an edge on Meslier. Despite arriving in Europe just over a year ago he has shown his ability in the French league.

He ranks in the 82nd percentile in the league for save percentage, and goals prevented. Perri is also very active off his line, and was one of the better keepers sweeping behind his defence. His passing is a very obvious flaw as Entwistle pointed out in his analysis.
