Leeds United plot £26m swoop for 28-goal ex-Premier League star

Leeds United are determined to bring in a starting number 9 before the end of the window. Daniel Farke has made it clear that his squad cannot be qualified as Premier League-ready unless they add quality and numbers to their forward line in the coming weeks.

The Whites have stepped up their search for attacking signings after spending the early part of the window deepening and strengthening their midfield resources. Leeds are now in the hunt for forwards, and signing a dominating number 9 is one of their biggest priorities in the ongoing window.

Leeds identified Fulham’s Rodrigo Muniz as their top target early in the window, but the Cottagers are in talks over a new deal with his representatives, and the Brazilian has other suitors in Newcastle, Tottenham, and Aston Villa.

The Whites have also identified a few forwards in Europe, such as Artem Dovbyk, as potential targets, but the club are now in the race to bring a forward Premier League striker back to England this summer.

Can you name the team Leeds United signed these players from in the 2000s?

Al-Hilal set asking price for Leeds United target Aleksandar Mitrovic

Al-Hilal are set to sign Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez, and that has led to speculation over the future of Aleksandar Mitrovic at the club.

His agents have offered him to clubs in the Premier League, and Leeds are among the sides who have been handed the chance to sign the former Fulham and Newcastle striker.

And according to journalist Sebastien Vidal, Leeds are very much in the race to sign the Serbian striker in the ongoing summer transfer window.

Mitrovic’s Premier League experience is being seen as a major bonus by Leeds, who want to bring a striker who has that in his locker this summer.

Al-Hilal are prepared to sell the striker instead of a loan deal, and want a fee in the region of £26m for the former Newcastle United forward this summer.

The 30-year-old is keen to return to England and wants to play in the Premier League again after his Saudi adventure.

Mitrovic suits the Leeds team that Daniel Farke is building this summer

Farke and the Leeds recruitment team’s focus have been on building a team that will not get bullied in the Premier League next season.

Leeds have added real physicality to their defence and midfield, and want the same with the striker who will lead the line for the Whites in the upcoming campaign.

Mitrovic is perfect for the kind of football Leeds are expected to play in the Premier League. He is physical, tenacious and can win duels with defenders.

The Serbian has scored 68 goals in 79 games since leaving Fulham in 2023, and in his last season in the Premier League, he netted 14 goals in 24 league appearances.

Leeds could be the perfect vehicle for his return to England, and his passionate nature will endear him to the Elland Road faithful if he scores goals for the club.

I hated him when he played, and almost always scored against us. He is a quality striker with lots of experience and he leads the line well. The price is a little steep, but what value do we place on having a goal scorer who can help keep us up? A no brainer in my opinion.

Gonna have to negotiate hard to reduce his £400,00 a week wage. Can’t see it myself.
