The past week at Leeds United has made one thing pretty clear – making the pre-season camp is a big sign. Basically, if a player is currently not in Germany, there is close to no chance he will play for the club next season.

Aside someone like Brenden Aaronson who has been given time off after playing an international tournament this summer, everyone is expected in camp. A number of player did not make the trip to Stockholm to play Manchester United either.

It was over the past week that we learnt Patrick Bamford is not in Daniel Farke’s plans for next season. Mateo Joseph has also failed to make the trip after asking for a transfer. Other names that did not make the camp include Sam Greenwood, Joe Gelhardt and Darko Gyabi.

These players are expected to find new clubs this summer.

Another name that was left out was James Debayo. Many expected him to join the club for pre-season, but he was nowhere to be found when players reported for fitness tests.

The youngster’s contract expired at the end of the season, but Leeds offered him a new deal. Sky Sports confirmed at the end of last week that the 20-year old has officially left the club. He is now a free agent, and expected to find a new club soon.

His reason for leaving was for more first team opportunities – he made just one first team appearance last season.

Club will earn a fee from former youth player

Debayo will have a number of clubs after his signature. Reports suggested clubs in England have serious interest in the 20-year old. But it looks like the defender will choose a move to Belgium. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but a deal could be announced soon.

Leeds will earn a compensation fee when Debayo eventually moves. Every club is entitled to training compensation when a player under 23 years old.

Leeds U21s have made some significant additions this summer

The club have made some solid additions to the U21 side this summer. Leeds brought in Manchester City star Jayden Lienou for a small fee, and also added former Liverpool youngster Louis Enahoro-Marcus.

Jonny Howson will also play a huge part in player development after joining as a player-coach this summer. He will feature for the U21s in some games, and spend time coaching these young players.
