Leeds United preparing transfer record bid for Europa League star – £38M fee rumoured

Leeds United know that they will have a huge budget as they prepare their return to the Premier League. After the season the Whites have had, this summer window will be crucial to their fate next season.

Fans will hope this summer will not be a repeat of what happened last year. After losing three of their biggest names, the club waited till late in the window to bring in some new faces. The season eventually panned out for everyone. Leeds won the Championship, hitting the 100-point mark and winning promotion.

Now the hard work begins, as Daniel Farke and the recruitment team figure out how to shape the squad. Any signings they make will be crucial as they aim to close the gap in quality before next season. In recent years, newly promoted clubs have performed worse in the Premier League due to being outmatched by quality.

The Whites are expected to have around £150million to spend, excluding player sales. Daniel Farke will have a greater role in recruiting players, and the fans will hope he can repeat the success from last summer. The Leeds boss was crucial in signing Manor Solomon and Ao Tanaka – who were both instrumental this year.

Now Leeds are targeting Marseille star Leonardo Balerdi. Foot Mercato are reporting that a transfer record bid is being prepared for the Argentine international. A fee of £38million has been mentioned as the Whites pursue the defender.

The Ligue 1 side have not ruled out a sale for Balerdi, and could consider the right offer.

Do Leeds need another defender?

For this transfer record fee? It does not seem like the Argentine is worth it. Pascal Struijk and Joe Rodon have been a solid partnership over the last two seasons. And Ethan Ampadu has been a reliable backup option. Signing a new defender for a record fee may be misguided from the Leeds United ownership.

That amount of money may be better off spent in other areas that need improvement.

Disagree. We need another CB so that Amps can push up. He can always drop back if injury dictates. But I dare say Wober will be on his trotters and we need not only cover, we need competition for places
