A football fan was fined for threatening Leeds United fans online before the infamous Leeds-Huddersfield clash. This West Yorkshire rivalry has seen its fair share of violence over the years.
Peter Rice, aged 41 lives in Kirklees posted threats related to death and serious harm before the derby in November. Kirklees Magistrates’ Court has now ordered the middle-aged man to pay a fine of Ā£1,490.
“2 late! Petrol bombs! Darts! Few bats and bars stashed in bushes outside ground… it’s guna be a war zone. Best get some hospital choppers on stand by. There’s guna be some blood shed.”
This is what the tweet read as Rice threatened fans of petrol bombs. Robert Campbell who was the persecutor said that the tweet was reported by someone who had seen it online.
The match in November was categorised as high risk as police intelligence suspected large-scale disorder. The disorder did occur as the two teams clashed at Kirklees Stadium.
Campbell commented on the incident stating the post was not general as it had included specific use of weapons.
“The post was not just a general ‘there’s going to be some trouble tomorrow’, but it made specific and detailed threats about the use of weapons. He wanted people to have that fear.”
Ex-Leeds United player faces professional setback
In other news, former Leeds United goalkeeper Kristoffer Klaesson is facing uncertainty with his contract situation. The player joined Polish side RakĆ³w CzÄstochowa this season in hopes of further developing his career.
However, things didn’t go as planned for him as he might face contract termination over a trivial incident. The goalkeeper has reportedly broken the manager’s trust because he visited McDonald’s.
According to Onet, the club is set to terminate Klaesson’s contract with ‘absolutely no regrets’. The Norwegian is going to face setbacks as he joined the club with a significant salary cut just for better opportunities.
Even though athletes are expected to be clean, this punishment seems excessively harsh. The 23-year-old goalkeeper decided to make a move after 3 years at Leeds United.
He only made four appearances for the senior side spending majority of the time playing for the club’s U21 side. Kristoffer’s contract expired this season following which he decided to move to Poland.
With RakĆ³w, he signed a three-year deal which was set to expire in 2027. However, things look bad for the youngster as his contract will be terminated before he hits the end of it.
