Leeds United seal transfer exit on shock terms with no upfront fee

Leeds United are keen to add more quality to their attack in the final days of the transfer window. However, the club have another eye on sales, and more signings could depend on the Whites agreeing to a shock sale late in the window before the September 1st transfer deadline.

The Whites are focused on moving on a few players who are not part of Daniel Farke’s or the club’s scheme of things. Largie Ramazani was allowed to move to Valencia on a season-long loan. He became the second Leeds player this summer to join a Spanish club after Mateo Joseph moved to Mallorca on a similar.

Leeds also terminated Patrick Bamford’s contract on Thursday to allow him to leave on a free transfer, and are waiting for concrete offers to land on their table for Illan Meslier, who is wanted at Valencia, Rangers and Lorient.

The Whites also allowed Isaac Schmidt to complete a loan move to Werder Bremen with an option to buy, once they secured the signature of James Justin from Leicester City earlier this week.

Leeds United agreed to receive no loan fee for Isaac Schmidt

Schmidt had an agreement in principle in place with Werder Bremen for weeks, and the delay was caused by Leeds dragging their feet on signing his replacement.

They eventually signed Justin from Leicester City, which paved the way for the Swiss defender to move to the Bundesliga club this week.

However, the terms of the deal are heavily favoured towards Werder Bremen, and according to Bild, the German club believe they have pulled off a massive bargain.

Werder Bremen agreed to cover his entire ÂŁ1.5m per year wages for the loan period, but Leeds have not received a loan fee from the defender’s exit.

The Whites will get a fee of ÂŁ3.46m if Werder Bremen take up the option to sign him on a permanent deal next year, but for now, they have received nothing from the transaction.

Werder Bremen managing director Clemens Fritz has stressed the importance of signing the defender from Leeds this summer.

“We’ve known Isaac since his time at St. Gallen. He brings dynamism, high intensity, and can play in various positions”, he said.

“Due to the tense personnel situation, it was important to sign a second full-back alongside Yuki.”

Leeds are only saving on Schmidt’s wages, which is something the club are comfortable with, given the defender has no future at the club.
