Leeds United will have another brutal fixture to face on Tuesday night at Elland Road. They take on a Sunderland side who have not been at their best this year.
The Black Cats were a surprise package at the start of their season given how well they played. They made the Stadium of Light a fortress, beating big teams along the way. But since the start of the year, they have struggled, which will play directly into Leeds’ hands.
Regis Le Bris’ side have won just two games in 2026. Both sides will be coming into the game seeking a win at this point of the season, especially Leeds United, who are still not guaranteed safety.
Sunderland star sends warning to Leeds United
Ahead of Tuesday night’s game, Sunderland star Eliezer Mayenda has warned Leeds United that he and his team will be coming for the three points.
“We are not happy because we wanted to get three points here, but we got one point, and we have to look forward now to the game on Tuesday. But it’s a good point here.” he said speaking to the Sunderland Echo.
“Yeah, we’re going to prepare for the game tomorrow and on Monday. I think it will be a different game, a different game away again.
“Good atmosphere at Leeds, we know. Then we’ll try to get three points again. One point is not enough, so we play every game to get three points.
“And at Leeds, against Leeds, we try to get a good game, to play a good game with the same mentality. And if we can, if we could do more, we’ll do it.”
Daniel Farke revealed that Joe Rodon will be available, and Noah Okafor is expected to be the only absence.
Leeds should bounce back from Saturday’s defeat
The last time these two sides met ended in a draw at the Stadium of Light in December. Fans will be hoping that this time around, they can get the three points against a fellow newly-promoted side. This game will be very important for Leeds; at this point of the season, you cannot enter a slump, which means the Whites need a result on Tuesday night to set the tone for the season. It is very difficult to get back on track after a few defeats, and with other sides around them at the bottle of the table desperately needing points, the stakes will be even higher.
Mayenda has spoken – we are done for then…lol!
