Heading into the top flight next summer, Leeds will have to improve their squad to stand a chance of survival. The club did a decent job the last time they reached the English top flight, and will hope to repeat it.

Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe has now said that the club will ”spend to compete” ahead of next season:

“I’m really excited about collaborating with Daniel and Robbie Evans, who we promoted to managing director, with Adam Underwood, who we promoted to sporting director.

“Together we are going to build the best squad we can with every penny we are allowed to spend to compete in the Premier League. I’m under no illusions that it’s going to be easy. I know all the stats, that last season’s three promoted clubs went right back down.

Marathe also spoke about the club using their revenue to invest in the team this summer.

“And so there’s an opportunity for us to take all of that extra revenue, and literally all of that extra revenue, and pour it right back onto the pitch. Is it going to be easy? Of course not. But do I feel that we’re going to be better equipped than the previous clubs. And I think that we have a really great team working together to go and attack the transfer market.”

How much do Leeds have to spend this summer?

There are a couple of resources available to the club before the ownership steps in during the summer. Leeds will earn a huge fee for being promoted to the Premier League. This is rumoured to be around £110million

The Whites also received a parachute payment around £40million as they were relegated two seasons ago. Leeds fans should be confident of a spending spree, as it came directly from the club chairman.
