Leeds United set for more Archie Gray heartache

Leeds United have been linked with a loan move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Archie Gray.

The teenager sealed a big money move to Spurs this summer after a breakout season at Leeds United. Gray won Leeds’ Young Player of the Year, and was named in the EFL Championship team of the year.

The midfielder has only played 56 minutes in the Premier League this season. He has however, started all of Spurs’ Europa League games and has been first choice in the EFL cup this season.

With a lack of game time so far, Gray has been linked with a loan move to his boyhood club Leeds United. Now, Carlton Palmer has said any potential move for the Spurs midfielder this summer will only be to a Premier League side:

“If they do let him go, Leeds may have just missed out on his return with Premier League clubs interested.” He said speaking to FLW.

“It would be a great bit of business if they could pull it off, but there will be lots of competition.

“I don’t think he’d want to go to the likes of Southampton, who are struggling – maybe Leicester, who are just outside the drop.

“I think it would be a great fit for him to return to Leeds. He’s only 18, very versatile, and he could play a major part from Christmas till the end of the season.”

This would mean clubs like Southampton and Leicester City will find themselves in pole position ahead of Leeds.

Missing out on Archie Gray will be a huge blow

Leeds United are currently in third place in the Championship after losing to Millwall in midweek. It was the team’s first loss since September; Daniel Farke’s side had gone nine games without losing before Wednesday night.

Leeds have done well to be so good this season after losing multiple key players during the summer. The Whites also suffered major injuries in the first few weeks of the season; Ethan Ampadu and Illia Gruev both missed over a month of action.

Daniel Farke pushed for reinforcements after the injuries, which lead to the club signing Josuha Guilavogui. Leeds have also set their sights on this Premier League midfielder who would definitely be available to sign in January.
