Questions have loomed over Leeds United’s midfield since captain Ethan Ampadu went down with an injury and this was simply exacerbated by the loss of Illia Gruev which has left gapping holes in the Leeds United midfield.
Fortunately for Daniel Farke and the Leeds United faithful, Ao Tanaka and Joe Rothwell have both stepped up brilliantly but tonight’s game (October 22nd) is a prime example of why the duo are not enough.
After defeating Sheffield United on Friday night, the pair will have to back up against Watford tonight to keep Leeds United in the chase for automatic promotion at this early stage of the season.
Squad depth is certainly needed, and this has seen Leeds United linked with Liverpool Ace Tyler Morton in January but that move does not solve the immediate problem but a different move could very well do so.
New update: Leeds United set to agree deal with veteran

Yesterday, we reported that Leeds United were set to sign Bundesliga stalwart Joshua Guilavogui. The 34-year-old is a French international capped seven times and is a cult hero at VfL Wolfsburg where he made 250 appearances and was club captain.
His experience extends to La Liga as well playing for one of the Spanish giants in the shape of Atletico Madrid. The Frenchman has been available since the end of last year when his contract with Mainz expired. Now with Leeds needing midfield reinforcements, it is only natural that they be interested in someone who has experience in two of Europe’s top five leagues.
After being pictured in Leeds after the win over Sheffield United, the talk surrounding this move increased and this was furthered with Leeds boss Daniel Farke green lighting a free agent signing this week.
Now, reports claim that Leeds are close to agreeing a short term deal for Guilavogui which would keep him at the club until the summer of 2025, meaning he would have no guarantee of football at Elland Road beyond the end of this season.
It is expected that this short term deal is agreed for the midfielder within the coming days unless a surprise twist occurs.
