Leeds United set to appoint sporting director – He oversaw monumental rise of former Bundesliga club

Leeds United are closing in on securing automatic promotion to the Premier League and are almost certain to go up at the end of the season. Ahead of a big summer, the club are set to undergo a major shake-up in their management behind the scenes. CEO Angus Kinnear is expected to join Everton soon and his experience will be missed behind the scenes at Elland Road. However, the club are working on bringing in a steady hand to help Daniel Farke construct a squad ahead of their probable return to the top flight and it seems the new appointment will only make the Leeds manager more powerful.

Farke and his Leeds United squad are focused on getting the job done in the remaining eleven games of the season and book their ticket for the Premier League.

Leeds are expected to overhaul their squad in the summer if they get promoted given the difference in quality between the Championship and the top flight.

However, Leeds are set to undergo a similar overhaul behind the scenes as well with Kinnear, whose remit extended to doing transfer deals for the club, set to move to Everton ahead of the summer.

Leeds have been working on bringing in a new sporting director to add one more layer of expertise in the recruitment department ahead of their return to the Premier League.

The Whites seem to have identified the man they want and Farke is set to get a helping hand from a compatriot as he looks to build a squad to survive the rigours of the top flight.

Leeds United set to bring in a German sporting director ahead of the summer

Leeds have had some joy shopping in Germany in recent years and the club are keen to tap into the market even more in the coming summer transfer window.

Farke has deep knowledge of the German market and according to Sky Deutschland, Leeds are close to appointing Samir Arabi as their new sporting director.

The 46-year-old is a vastly experienced operator in German football and was at Arminia Bielefeld for seven years as their managing director of sport before leaving the club two years back.

He previously served as their director of football for five years before getting promoted, which is a sign of the good work he carried out at Arminia Bielefeld

Leeds have been keen to bring in someone experienced and a steady hand who could aid Farke in his efforts to build a squad ready for the Premier League.

Arabi will be expected to work alongside Farke and play a big part in the club’s recruitment process starting this summer when they hope to plan a squad for the top flight.

Leeds have tasted success by buying personnel from Germany and Arabi’s knowledge of the market could see the club invest more money in players from the Bundesliga.

Arminia Bielefeld only grew as a club under his tutelage

The 46-year-old’s work at Arminia Bielefeld has been noticed by many when he turned a club tottering in the third division of German football into a Bundesliga outfit.

When he arrived as the club’s director of football, Arminia were a mid-table side in the third division of German football with bleak prospects of even reaching the second tier.

He took him a while but within a couple of seasons, they made it to the second tier of German football and established themselves in the division.

However, his high point came when in 2020, within a decade of Arabi’s arrival, Arminia got promoted to the Bundesliga for the first time in eleven years.

Leeds are looking to grow into a Premier League club and they are hopeful that the former Arminia Bielefeld man will establish a blueprint to develop them in the upcoming seasons.
